Welcome to Germany
Project
Goal
For the model project of the Turkish-German Health Foundation e. V. (TDG), a welcoming culture for new immigrants was developed at four locations in Hessen in cooperation with the respective municipalities / cities.
The project was funded by the Hessian Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration and the Asko-Europa-Stiftung (foundation).
Over a period of three years, a strategy was developed as part of the cooperation with the respective municipality / city, in which first the areas were determined where the development of a welcoming culture was important, and then – after the implementation of training courses and / or measures – investigate what it takes for adaptations with regard to the needs of migrant.
The project is to be thoroughly evaluated, and large sections of the population are to be reached with broad public relations.
Implementation
In order to develop a welcoming culture, two pillars are to be used in this project:
- Strengthening the new immigrants, especially women and families with a migration backgrounds, in order to initiate successful and sustainable integration. This includes offers of training, networking, orientation and advice on the telephone.
- The establishment of a welcoming and recognition of culture in the municipality through the development of visualization through signs and symbols, training and opening up within the authorities.
Cooperation with on site offers
When carrying out the project, we involve all regional contact persons in the project: the city / municipality, daycare centers, elementary schools, pre-school courses, and all existing support facilities for children in the region. By setting up a network to support children, we want to encourage parents to work even more intensively for the individual support of their children according to the latest findings. So that parents with a migrant background succeed in doing this, they should improve their expressive skills in the field of education and learning with the help of a specialist language course.
